Been a little while since my last post but have been busy with shoots of both Big Cats at the Wildlife Heritage Foundation and also of Birds of Prey. I really like my Lion portrait done in this style and it inspired me to try with this Tiger, in fact it's got me thinking I might try and do a series of Cats this way!

I thought I'd try out my local park since I had previously seen a Great Crested Grebe on the lake. It does tend to become a haven for dogs who when out with their owners love to jump in and frighten all the birds but luckily this morning it was quiet. The first bird I see is a Cormorant, I sat and watched for a while but it was gradually moving further away until I lost it behind a small woody island. But then I saw it again, standing on a small branch that was sticking out of the lake. I made my way around the lakeside fighting my way through the undergrowth to a small clear fishing spot and there it was, wings spread in classic Cormorant pose but as I raised my camera it took fright and flew off!
I did the spot the Grebe but again it was just too far away to get any worthwhile shots. I headed back to my original spot and there was the Cormorant standing high up in an old dead tree on the little island. I spent the next hour just watching and waiting but it was content just to stand there, occasionally preening. Then the dog walkers arrived shouting and swearing at the top of their voices letting their dogs run riot so I decided it was time to move on.
Talking to a fisherman on the way around the lake I did pick up some interesting info regarding the nest of a barn owl so will have to check that one out another day.

It's been a while but I've been busy planning some new shoots soon, including the planned trip to Borneo next year. I've laso been getting to grips with a new body the Canon 5D mkiii so far it's proving to be a really superb piece of kit but trouble is I was so used to the buttons on the 50D I still find myself having to look twice to do something I could do instinctivly with the old one.
Todays other news was the announcment that this years FOCUS was the last one, this is a great shame and you have to wonder what if anything will replace it.

Head shot of a rare Snow Leopard, very few of these wonderful cats still exist in the wild, sadly this animal has since died.
